ASH Advocates for Diversity in Medicine

The Society is disappointed in the recently issued SCOTUS Decision in SFFA vs Harvard/UNC and emphasizes the importance of fostering a diverse health care workforce.

(WASHINGTON, June 29, 2023) – The ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ (ASH), a member of the Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS), supports the CMSS statement expressing disappointment in the recent ruling by the United States Supreme Court that restricts the consideration of an applicant’s racial or ethnic background in higher education admissions.

The court’s decisions in Students for Fair Administration (SFFA) vs Harvard and SFFA vs the University of North Carolina could be detrimental to crucial efforts to support diversity in hematology, medicine, and the entire health care profession.
